چکیده
More people can survive sudden cardiac arrest when a particular sequence of events occurs as rapidly as possible. This sequence is 1) recognition of early warning signs, 2) activation of the emergency medical system, 3) basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 4) defibrillation, 5) intubation, and 6) intravenous administration of medications. The descriptive device "chain of survival" communicates this understanding in a useful way (Figure 1). While separate specialized programs are necessary to develop strength in each link, all of the links must be connected. Weakness in any link lessens the chance of survival and condemns the efforts of an emergency medical services (EMS) system to poor results. The chain of survival concept has evolved through several decades of research into sudden cardiac arrest. Effective system interventions have been identified that will allow survivors to remain neurologically intact. While a few urban systems may have approached the current practical limit for survivability from sudden cardiac arrest, most EMS systems, both

Factors Associated with Survival Rate after Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is considered as the most important cause of mortality among men and women throughout the world. This condition causes sudden cardiac arrest in more than half of the cases. To reduce mortality due to this disease, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the determinants of its success are the focus of researchers. Objective: The aim of this study was to det...
متن کاملSurvival and outcomes following cardiopulmonary resuscitation; a descriptive study in Iran
Objective: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been known in its present form since 1960. Different studies have reported variable outcomes among different countries. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the rate of CPR success and the survival rate in managing cardiac arrest among patients in an educational medical center. Methods: Th...
متن کاملInitial documented rhythm as a predictor of survivalto-discharge rate after in-hospital cardiac arrest in a tertiary care referral institute, South India: an observational study
Objective: Survival-to-discharge rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients remain significantly low. The use of initial documented cardiac rhythm as predictor of Survival-to-discharge is still unclear. This study aimed to assess whether the initial documented rhythm can be used as a predictor of survival-to-discharge following IHCA in an emergency department of the tertiary car...

Available literature suggests a need for both initial cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and refresher courses. The establishment of a pediatric chain of survival for victims of cardiopulmonary arrest is the focus of this technical report and is advocated in the accompanying policy statement. Immediate bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation for victims of cardiac arrest improves survival f...
متن کاملPredictors of Long-Term Survival after Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Abstract Introduction: Survival after cardiac arrest is one of the most important issues related to the safety and quality of patient care, and unexpected events such as failure to follow guidelines can endanger the patient's safety. Objective: This study aimed to determine the long-term survival after cardiopulmonary resuscitation and its predictors in patients with cardiac arrest. Materi...
